The Problem We Saw

Solar Panel adoption in the UK is growing at the fastest pace it ever has and there is little combined knowledge and experience of how to safely and competently clean them.

In terms of knowledge, many cleaners do not understand the severity of risk solar panel cleaning presents because it is a live electrical device.

In terms of competency, the tech is so new that standards are not clearly defined and much conflicting information exists on best practices.

Safety is a bigger concern both in terms of cleaning the panels and in terms of accessibility. Many solar panels cannot be safely cleaned from the ground. Cleaning off ladders should also be avoided based on Health & Safety England Guidance. This means the safe use of access towers or powered access (cherry pickers) are required with the right knowledge and training in the form of PASMA or IPAF licenses.

The Solution We Built

We are building a directory of only the highest standards of solar panel cleaners. We only certify cleaners who have passed our strict vetting process. Think of this like how Checkatrade used to be but super specialised for solar panel cleaning only.

Whilst we cannot guarantee outcomes, we do a lot of the work of sorting serious well intentioned cleaners from those who may exploit or take advantage. When you choose to hire a Solar Assure Certified cleaner you know checks like ID, Address, Financial Integrity, Insurance and Competency have been completed and meet a baseline standard which is higher than most. This saves you time and guesswork.

We also operate a feedback system where we encourage completely honest feedback that is kept anonymous to the cleaner. This is aimed at honestly improving processes because we understand reviews as they currently exist are flawed. Good people tend not to leave constructive or negative reviews because they don’t want to be spiteful but this stops positive change from taking place. Instead reviews nowadays tend to be either bought, incentivised or just the loudest voices rather than the most valuable.

Our Core Objectives

To bring integrity back to the industry, we focus on four key pillars:

• Homeowner: You benefit from access to a directory that is primarily incentivised to seek good standards and eliminate poor standards. The directory is free to use and it helps by providing a list of pre-vetted cleaners where you know a high watermark exists for standards and background checks. Transparent pricing and an emphasis on integrity over corporate greed help to work with your best interests at heart.
• Solar Panel Cleaners: Cleaners can be listed as certified for a reasonable fee which covers the operational running costs. There’s no commissions or other costs so we are not corrupted to oversell in terms of expectations. Many good cleaners lack marketing expertise and our organisation helps to get good cleaners connected with homeowners who value good standards and working practices.
• Safety: We promote good safety standards and specify that PPE is mandatory and not an option. There are two key risks from working at height and electrical safety and by promoting this safety aspect to homeowners and cleaners we work towards improving awareness overall. If a single cleaner is saved as a result of this knowledge our efforts are a success.

The Vision

“Our vision for the future is clear. We want homeowners to know that when they contract a solar panel cleaner through solar assure they know they are almost certainly going to get exceptionally high service standards delivered safely and with competence, care and integrity.

Why do I say almost certainly? Because I know that along the way we will experience instances where it doesn’t go perfectly. But because we truly care the important part is that we will continually work to ensure standards are kept high. This will undoubtedly mean that there will be some cleaners that will be removed from our certification over the years due to poor standards and that there will also be genuine mistakes from good cleaners.

What’s vital is that we will ensure we keep quality and the service experience for the homeowner at the forefront of what we do and demonstrate that we learn and improve sincerely from any experience that is not 100% positive. We will not put revenue and profits before good standards because we understand that always leads to eventual failure to survive.

Solar Assure UK is a for-profit membership body. Certified members pay a modest monthly fee to continue benefiting from:
